DESCRIPTION

This webinar will review the findings of a multisite national study on the perceptions and experiences of nurse managers during the COVID-19 pandemic in different types of organizations across the country. We will discuss major themes identified by the nurse managers and potential strategies for recovery post-pandemic.

  1. Describe the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Nurse Managers.
  2. Identify priorities for post-pandemic recovery for Nurse Managers.

PRESENTER BIO(s)

Dr. Esther Chipps holds a dual appointment at The Ohio State University as the Nurse Scientist at The OSU Wexner Medical Center and as a Professor of Clinical Nursing at The Ohio State University College of Nursing. Dr. Chipps is responsible for directing the program of nursing research for the clinical nursing staff. Her research area of interest includes topics related to nursing leadership science and the nursing practice environment. She has been an active member of Association of Leadership Science in Nursing serving as the VP for Research and is currently appointment to the joint Association of Leadership Science in Nursing and Association for Nurse Leaders Foundation Research Advisory Committee. She has been the recipient of numerous research grants and awards including Sigma Theta Tau, AONE and ALSN. She was an the recipient of the March of Dimes Nurse Researcher of the Year in Ohio in 2019 and the Central Ohio Sigma Theta Tau mentorship award in 2017.

Dr. Marjorie Kelley is a nurse researcher at the Ohio State University, College of Nursing with research interests in clinical informatics and patient-centered technologies. Through her research, she hopes to develop technology-based interventions to improve health and wellness both in nurses and patients. Dr. Kelley also serves as the Chief Scientific Officer for a healthcare startup company. Dr. Kelley received her MS from the University of Washington, Seattle with a concentration in information technology and her PhD from OSU with cognates in clinical informatics and statistics. Dr. Kelley has been supported by public and private grant funding and has been published in national and international journals. She authored several book chapters and presented her work at national and international conferences. She has served on the board of the American Medical Informatics Association – Nursing Informatics workgroup and on numerous grant and journal review panels.

Cheryl Monturo, PhD, MBE, ACNP-BC is nurse practitioner, scientist, and educator. In her role as Senior Nurse Scientist at Chester County Hospital Penn Medicine (CCH), she provides leadership for advancing interdisciplinary research capacity and the translation of evidence into practice in collaboration with the Director of Research. Her research interests include qualitative methods, bioethical issues related to palliative and hospice care in older adults, and the use of technology in pedagogy and clinical practice. As an educator, Dr. Monturo has taught many undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of research, EBP, and ethics, and collaborated on an Ethics Across the Curriculum initiative providing ethics education to faculty. Dr. Monturo received a baccalaureate degree from William Paterson University, an MSN and Post-Master’s Certificate (Acute Care CRNP) from Penn Nursing, a Master of Bioethics from Penn Medicine, and a PhD from Penn Nursing.

  • This course has been approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider #CEP16785, for a maximum of 1.00 Nursing Contact Hour. The licensee must retain this document for a period of four (4) years after the course concludes.
