Nurse Leaders’ Experiences During COVID

DATE & TIME

Tuesday, June 14, 1pm Eastern
(Duration: 1 hour)

DESCRIPTION

Even before the COVID-19 outbreak, at least one out of every ten nurses worldwide was suffering from high burnout, contributing to high turnover rates. The stress of struggling to maintain nurse staffing and reduce turnover consequently may contribute to burnout and turnover among nurse leaders. The pandemic has compounded these stressors for nurse leaders, e.g., managing staff shortages, reassigning nurses to cover COVID-19 units, limited bed capacity, high patient acuities, shortage of personal protective equipment - all while supporting their staff nurses. This presentation will review research that explores COVID-related stressors, work environment, burnout, turnover intention, and resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic.

LEARNER OBJECTIVES

  1. Identify the presence of COVID-related stressors, burnout, turnover intention, and resilience among nurse leaders in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis in Birmingham hospitals.
  2. Review strategies that nurse leaders have used during this pandemic to maintain resiliency.
  3. Describe how work environment impacts burnout, turnover intention, and resilience among nurse leaders.
