Globally, the nursing profession considers safety as a North Star in its practice and education. Despite two decades since the publication of To Error is Human, safety issues persist. During the COVID-19 pandemic, nurse sensitive indicators dramatically worsened. Achieving safe care is a goal of the Magnet Recognition Program, thus leaders seeking Magnet Recognition need nurses prepared with the safety competences demonstrated in the Quality and Safety Education for Nursing (QSEN) competencies practiced in a systems approach according to the first National Action Plan for Advancing Patient Safety, Safer Together.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate how healthcare leaders help nurses apply the six QSEN competencies through integration of the Safer Together National Safety Plan and the ANCC Magnet Model.
  2. Illustrate the synergy of the Magnet Components and the Safer Together to assure delivery of safe quality care.
