ALSN Call for Nominations

ALSN is the single international nursing organization responsible for advancing graduate education and research in nursing administration and leadership. With the ALSN monthly column in the Journal of Nursing Administration (JONA), the ALSN at AONL annual presentation and the ALSN International Conference, ALSN members bring a wealth of expertise to the challenge of leadership development in nursing.

All terms will begin on January 1. Self-nominations are encouraged. ALSN is seeking nominations for the following positions (3 board positions; 2 committee positions):

  • President-Elect: ALSN Board position; 4-year term (one year as President-Elect, two years as President, one year as Past President).
  • Treasurer: ALSN Board position; 2-year term beginning January 1; can serve for up to two full consecutive terms.
  • Vice President of the Succession Planning Committee: ALSN Board position; 2-year term.
  • Succession Planning Committee Member (2 vacancies): 2-year term.

Duties of the President-Elect
The President-Elect shall serve a 4-year term, one year as President-Elect, two years as President, one year as Past President. Duties include:

President-Elect shall:

  1. Perform the duties of the President in the absence of that officer.
  2. Complete the unexpired term of the President in cases where the President is unable to fulfill the duties of the office.
  3. Partner with the President and/or Past President to monitor initiatives involving members and external stakeholders.

President shall:

  1. Preside as the executive officer and administer all ALSN business not provided for in the Bylaws.
  2. Appoint officers for vacated offices until the next election, with ALSN Board approval.
  3. Prepare the ALSN annual report.
  4. Prepare the ALSN monthly newsletter.
  5. Appoint ad hoc committees, as needed, to address the organization’s needs.
  6. Coordinate and monitor all major initiatives involving external stakeholders in collaboration with the Past President and/or President Elect.

Past President shall:

  1. Coordinate and monitor all major initiatives involving external stakeholders in collaboration with the President.
  2. Orient new members to the ALSN Board.
  3. Serve on the internal audit committee.

Duties of the Treasurer

  1. Perform all fiduciary duties.
  2. Prepare draft annual budget for Board action.
  3. Arrange for an internal or external financial audit every two years. The ALSN Board will conduct an internal audit followed by an external audit two years later.
  4. Prepare and submit Treasurer’s report to the membership at its biennial meeting.
  5. Provide financial updates at ALSN Board meetings.

Duties of the VP of the Succession Planning Committee

  1. The VP of the Membership & Succession Committee is an ALSN Board position.
  2. The VP shall serve as the chair of the Membership & Succession Planning Committee.
  3. The VP shall oversee the execution of the Membership & Succession Planning Committee member duties.

Duties of the Succession Planning Committee Member

  1. Creates a list of leadership positions that are due for election.
  2. Contacts members individually for nominations, attempting to recruit at least 2 candidates for each open position.
  3. Assists in coordinating the submission of nominations, creation of the ballot and notification of voting results.
