The most successful published authors learn to think like the journal editors who review their manuscripts. This webinar is a unique opportunity to hear from four editors of major leadership nursing journals. The editors will discuss their journal mission, the review process, types of articles that are published or not published and timeframes from submission to publication. The editors will also give their advice on how to select the best journal for your manuscript along with ways to help your work stand out.

This webinar is appropriate for nursing faculty who teach in leadership programs, nurse leaders in practice settings and graduate students in DNP or PhD programs whose scholarly work focuses on nursing leadership.
PRESENTERS
Karen Hill, RN, DNP, NEA-BC, FACHE, FAANKaren is the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Nursing Administration, an international scholarly peer reviewed journal. She processes over 350 manuscripts for JONA annually and produces 11 editions a year for over 10,000 subscribers in 146 countries. Dr. Hill presents internationally on leadership development, bringing evidence to practice, tips for publishing and working with an Editor, leading an intergenerational workforce and the retention of experienced older employees among other areas of expertise. Dr. Hill has over 75 peer-reviewed publications and is co-author of a book released in 2018, “Creating a Research-Friendly Environment: A Community Hospital Approach”. Dr. Hill recently retired after 28 years as the Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nursing Officer from Baptist Health Lexington. Dr. Hill led Baptist Health Lexington to Magnet designation four times during her tenure.
Donna M. Nickitas, Ph.D., RN, NEA-BC, CNE, FNAP, FAAN
Donna M. Nickitas - a noted health policy scholar, an energetic visionary regarding the future of health care and nursing education in America, and an accomplished administrator. She is dean of the Rutgers School of Nursing- Camden and Editor, Nursing Economic$, The Journal of Health Care Leaders. A retired major in the U.S. Air Force Nurse Reserve Corps, Dr. Nickitas assumed the deanship after a distinguished career at the City University of New York’s Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing and The Graduate Center, where she was a professor, the executive officer of the nursing science Ph.D. program and as the specialty coordinator of the dual degree in nursing administration/public administration. She played a critical role in growing enrollment and enhancing the school’s national profile. Her research and scholarship include community-based participatory research in service-learning, civic engagement, and public health. Dr. Nickitas’ long history of advocacy for equitable health care, expertise in academic nursing education, and proven ability to foster a culture of cross-sector engagement positions her to lead the dynamic growth of the Rutgers-Camden nursing school. She is building on its tradition of preparing nurses to serve society and do public good by advancing health, driving public policy, and promoting access to quality, patient-centered care. She is widely published and has authored, co-authored, or co-edited peer-reviewed in journals, book-chapters, and books related to the nursing profession such as the 3rd edition of her co-edited textbook, Public Policy, and Politics for Nurses and Other Health Professionals released in 2019, the recipient of the American Journal Book of the Year Award in January 2020. Her scholarship and research consistently appear in peer-reviewed publications. Since 2008, she has served as the editor of Nursing Economic$. Dr. Nickitas is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, a fellow of the National Academies of Practice, a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine, and Professor Emerita at the City University of New York, Graduate Center. She has a Ph.D. in Nursing Research from Adelphi University, an MA from New York University, a BSN from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and an AAS from Kingsborough Community College. She is a board member of the New Jersey Department of Health, Preventative Committee on Health, a board member of the Camden Coalition, Secretary for Sigma National Honor Society Nursing Knowledge Marketplace, and the treasurer for the Eastern Nursing Research Society.
Rose O. Sherman , EdD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN
Rose is nationally known for her work in helping current and future nurse leaders to develop their leadership and coaching skills. She has been Editor in Chief of Nursing Leader, the official journal of the American Organization of Nurse Executives since 2016. Rose is an emeritus professor in the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University and currently serves as a faculty member in the Marian K Shaughnessy Nursing Leadership Academy at Case Western Reserve University. She has written more than 100 peer-reviewed articles. Rose also edits a popular leadership blog www.emergingrnleader.com that is read by thousands of nurses each week. She is the author of two books, The Nurse Leader Coach: Become the Boss No One Wants to Leave. and recently published The Nuts and Bolts of Nursing Leadership: Your Toolkit for Success.
KT Waxman, DNP, MBA, RN, CNL, CENP, CHSE, FSSH, FAONL, FAAN
Dr. KT Waxman is aninternational nurse leader. She is an Associate Professor at the University of San Francisco and is the Director of the Executive Leadership Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. She is the Director of the California Simulation Alliance and she is the Editor-in-Chief for Nursing Administration Quarterly. Waxman is a past president of the Association of California Nurse Leaders, past board member, serving as Treasurer, for the American Organization for Nursing Leadership, and is a Past President of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Waxman's work can be found in the Journal for Simulation in Healthcare, Clinical Simulation for Nursing, JONA, Journal of Nursing Education, NAQ, Nurse Leader and Creative Nursing journals. She has authored 3 books on Finance and Budgeting and 2 simulation books. Waxman received her DNP from the University of San Francisco, with an emphasis on leadership and clinical simulation. She holds certifications as Clinical Nurse Leader, Certification in Executive Nursing Practice, Certification as a Simulation Healthcare Educator and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, the American Organization for Nursing Leadership, and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
